How To: Add multiple monitors to your Mac or PC |
| Posted by Silvio Tech 24 Hours Ago

Have you ever wanted to be able to have more than one screen and you already used your max with the built in VGA or HDMI port in your computer? Well there is a solution, you can buy this adapter made by Newer Tech which is a USB adapter that you connect to a USB port of your computer and you can plug in either a HDMI, VGA or DVI monitor.
http://www.newertech.com/products/viddu2dvia.php
You can add a max of 4 monitors using 4 of these adapters to your computer on Mac and a max of 6 on a PC. The cool thing of this adapter is that you can improve your productivity, say you have a network feed on one screen, you have your main desktop on another, your twitter feed on another screen and lastly, maybe a live stream of online surveillance cameras you may have. It also comes in handy when you have projects or papers to write, you can do research on 2 screens and maybe have a dictionary or something else on another screen and then have the document you are working on, on the 4th screen. I think that this is totally worth it with all the perks that you gain. I am considering buying a second adapter so that whenever I want to stream live TV to my TV set I can have it connected like that. I currently have 2 external monitors coming from my macbook.

Highway Robbery: Apple Mac Customization |
| Posted by Silvio Tech 47 Hours Ago
|
I am going to keep this short, I had this article all finished up but when I was going to post it, I had to log back in and I lost all that I wrote.
Have you ever noticed the prices on the Customization of the specs of an apple mac machine? Go take a look for yourself. You will save a lot of money if you just customize it on your own buying the from sites such as OWC.
An example would be that they charge you $200 to upgrade from 4GB of RAM to 8 GB. That is highway robbery. I did the same upgrade but bought the RAM from OWC for around $50, the same thing, I saved myself $150 had I done it with Apple. Also, some people have this mentality that it is better if I buy it directly from Apple because it is better and all, WRONG. Apple uses the same parts that you would find online, from OWC etc. When I Upgraded my HD I noticed that it was made by Fujitsu and that it just had an Apple logo on it. Buyer beware, dont get ripped off by Apple.

Highway Robbery: Ink Cartridges |
| Posted by Silvio Tech May 10th

This week's Highway Robbery is about ink cartridges. Whether it be a a laserjet, an inkjet etc. all of these printers need a form of ink source which comes from these cartridges. The problem is that when you buy a printer, you pay that one time fee that may not seem a lot maybe $100-200. The thing is that they have you hooked on when you have to be buying ink frequently and that are super expensive for no reason.
Earlier this week, a man decided to cut open a couple of ink cartridges he had from 2010 to 2012, 3 of them to be exact. He wanted to know if his suspicion was right because it seemed that everytime he would buy new ink, there would be less and less ink coming from the cartridges, though the prices still remained the same. His suspicion turned out to be right, the 2010 cartridge had a bigger sponge which holds more of the ink, the 2012 version had roughly half the size of the 2010 version, 50% less ink for most likely 20% more of the cost. Prices of ink do not go down they just keep going up.
I for one, am not affected by these scheme that manufacturers do to screw their customers. I buy remanufactured ink cartridges from an online site. This company just gets the recycled cartridges that people give say to staples after they bought the original and used it and then went to get it recycled at staples. They punch in holes in the cartridge and insert ink, to fill it up. Then they put their own sticker to cover up the holes and also the original manufacturer logo. So I save roughly 40% on ink compared if I bought the rip off ones directly from HP. My suggestion to you is that if you do not need a printer, and if you can email what you need to print to people instead of having it on paper, that will save you a great deal of money and save you from being ripped off from cheap schemes like the ones that ink manufactures pull off.

Apple Comedy |

Seems like Apple has a sense of humor. If you did not know, when you are connected to a network and there are PCs on the network. Apple goes all out on for the shared macs, they put an icon that represents the computer, if its an imac, they put an iMac, a macbook pro, the same thing. They even match it by generation and screen size, the 27inch imac icon is bigger than the 21 inch iMac. On your mac, you will see all these computers show up in finder as "Shared" well it seems to be that for PCs, Apple has made it the icon to Represent a PC as a CRT monitor and even better, they added a Blue Screen on Death. How much better can it get than that? Who says Apple doesnt have a sense of humor?

AT&T CEO's greed |
| Posted by Silvio Tech May 5th
|
Well heres something interesting. I do not know anyone who actually likes AT&T and would defend them for their decisions, heck I dont think I know anyone who actually likes cellular telecoms probably because they are all the same, they are all greedy. Well the CEO of AT&T recently was talking about what he regrets and what he thinks about Apple's iMessage. He first said that he regrets ever offering a unlimited data plan, remember that $30 data plan that was all you can eat data?
So what I do not understand is that you release that plan, you force iPhone 3G and original owners to pay more for a data plan. Then they get rid of the plan all together and start throttling those who are grandfathered with that plan. Then there is a 2GB plan that they introduce for $5 less than the unlimited plan, but that is nothing compared to unlimited. Now, things like this makes me think why doesnt the FCC do something about these companies. They are doing whatever they want to screw customers. This is crazy, they need to be controlled, American telecoms are seriously behind other cellular companies, third world countries have better plans and prices than what American telecoms do. So AT&T makes us pay a lot for the service, we should expect to get excellent service for the top dollar we are giving them, that is not the case. Instead of actually getting their network to hold up with the amount of traffic it has, they complain and try to get people to not use their network as much, saying that it costs them too much to keep the network up and that it is too much. They dont do anything to solve the problem. Then they try to get people to not use it as much by having these 2 GB plans that you cant really do anything with only that little and to have plans such as 250 MB is just a disgrace.
One other thing that the CEO talked about was about Apple's iMessage. "You lie awake at night worrying about what is that which will disrupt your business model,” he said. “Apple iMessage is a classic example. If you’re using iMessage, you’re not using one of our messaging services, right? That’s disruptive to our messaging revenue stream." Well, I think that instead of worry about that, he is worried about what new methods he can come up to screw his customers even more. I could honestly care any less if it disrupts your messaging revenue, it costs nothing to send texts through that horrible network of theirs yet they charge a premium for texting. I, do not have a texting plan with AT&T because I refuse to pay them a cent more for that, I use a free texting app and I send free texts like that, save my self money and also take away money that AT&T would be receiving if I...Read More
